The BRABC is always looking for community volunteers to help us continue to provide our services to the public. Below are details about how volunteers can get involved with the Barren River Asset Building Coaliton's efforts to help low/moderate income working families in our region.
TAX PREPARER
Coalition tax preparers are responsible for preparing basic income taxes. You will work with each taxpayer to ensure that they file a complete and quality tax return. We will teach you to become comfortable using the latest in tax preparation software. Preparers will use their interpersonal skills, computer skills, and IRS resource guides to help them apply their knowledge of tax law to each individual's situation. Every volunteer tax preparer must get certified at the BASIC level through Link and Learn before filing taxes for the coalition. To learn more about getting certified, visit the IRS website (www.irs.gov)and type, "Link & Learn" into the search field.
SITE GREETER
Every VITA site needs at least one reliable greeter. A site greeter welcomes taxpayers as they walk in, gives them the correct forms to fill out, and helps them complete those forms if they require help. A greeter may answer some phone calls when tax preparers are busy with customers. This is a great way for new volunteers to learn more about how VITA Sites are set up and operated. By participating as a greeter, volunteers help their community while they gain valuable experience and knowledge. Greeters do not have to get certified. A short training session will be given to you by your supervisor.
AMBASSADOR
Our free services can help a thousands of taxpayers and the communities they live in. By distributing information about our services (Flyers, door-hangers, etc.), volunteers can directly impact how much people know about the coalition's efforts and they number of taxpayers that take advantage of this money-saving opportunity.
